Oil & Gas Engineering Technician Meters
The Oil & Gas Division of the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) has an opening for an Oil & Gas Engineering Technician to work within the Dickinson or Williston Field office areas. The Oil and Gas Division regulates the drilling and production of oil and gas in North Dakota. As an Engineering Technician – Meters, you will play a key role in the Oil & Gas Division’s mission by, ensuring all DMR regulations and national standards are followed by, conducting the job duties below.
Witnessing:
- Oil provers perform oil custody transfer and allocation meter provings
- Waterdraws
- Master meter provings
- Gas custody transfer & allocation meter calibrations
- Sampling of oil for vapor pressure
Checking:
- Meter installations to ensure proper installation
- Commingled Central Tank Batteries
To thrive in this role, you should be a dependable, responsible, strong communicator and self-starter who enjoys working outdoors year-round, with a strong understanding of technology; oil and gas standards, working with dedicated inspection software along with GIS programs, and computer-aided database software.
This full-time position is primarily field based with some office duties. The office will be in Dickinson or Williston, ND, but remote office work may be allowed for those living in the surrounding areas. The position offers a strong work-life balance with a consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule, with flexible scheduling options, and minimal overnight, evening, or weekend work.

The Hiring Salary Range is $38,580 – $53,700 per year, or $3,215 – $4,475 per month.
To be considered for this role, you must have a High School Diploma/GED; a valid Driver’s License; and knowledge of hydraulics, motors, pumps, pressure gauges and machinery. Must also have knowledge and experience using Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Include, an Associate’s Degree in a related field, or oil & gas experience, as well as good verbal & written communication skills, familiarity with GIS mapping software, and the ability to work outside in the ND climate.

- American Petroleum Institute (API)
- American Gas Association (AGA)
- National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
- American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
